Hi grahroll
Thanks for your suggestions

  1. do not have access to a working phone to make any calls. No idea where a working public phone box is.
  2. Woolworths/OPPO “customer Care” is an oxymoron. Have you ever tried to phone Telstra? It’s the same frustrating run around in circles by patronising 'oh yes I can help you" and then their only solution is to pass you on to yet another person

  3. Email ‘support’ is similar - download another app to get the phone to work, repeat ad nauseum

This is why I have been in dispute with OPPO / Woolworths for 10 months wanting to cancel the service contract on a phone that does not work as advised.

I cannot see a change in helpfulness if I were to find a phone and spend 3 hours being passed around

Why isn’t a phone considered an essential service? Why isn’t every phone server contract clear about their apparent ability to block use?
Received email from ombudsman’s enquiry officer that it will still take some time to be seen : (

You can get a new SIM from a provider eg ALDI and put it in your iphone or the OPPO (it doesn’t matter which phone you use to do this) just don’t choose to transfer your old number. You will be able to use that SIM to contact the provider and activate your phone service. You will have a new number and will be able to make and receive calls. If you have previously backed up your iphone you will be able to download that data from the iCloud.

Just to (be a pain and) get something straight (since google searches can see things), you’re not in dispute with OPPO
 You’re having issues with Woolworths.

OPPO have nothing to do with your service. They sell hardware, not phone contracts. Your contract is with Woolworths.

If you’ve already activated your ALDIMobile SIM, and started a porting, you’ll have to get another pre-paid SIM and activate it with a new number.

Google search may see things but I don’t think you’ve trawled through my many posts (understandable)
For clarification - I am in dispute with Woolworths because the ‘free phone’ OPPO phone - does not work as described and - is not fit for purpose - as phone/service was presented.

Woolworths think it’s reasonable for me to pay $400 for a phone that does not work and for a service I cannot use! They say I need to pay this by January 25 or they will send out the creditors! Disregarding TIO involvement, they say ‘case closed’ TIO still working through many complaints and seems like a longer wait for their decision.
Woolworths is NOT a reasonable company to deal with. I no longer shop with Woolworths or any of their associated companies - Big W , BSW, and Dick Smith.

I have, but you said:

And I’m just clarifying the fact your dispute is with Woolworths, not OPPO

BTW, Dick Smith haven’t been owned by Woolies for sooo many years
they sold it, and then it went broke
It’s now a Kogan online trading name.

As @blakamin posted, Dick Smith a a web site owned and operated by Ruslan Kogan’s company. The old Dick Smith was owned by Woolies from 1982-2012 when it was sold to US corporate raiders ( or if you prefer call them venture capitalists or distressed company specialists) Anchorage Capital Partners. They milked it for about 4 years and wound it up in 2016 when Kogan bought the name and web site.

A good history is at

Thanks TheBBG
Yes I am aware Dick Smith is now Kogan - recently looked at prices for ipads and phones on Dick Smith and were same as Kogan and information response came from Kogan.
When responding to blakamin I ‘googled’ woolworths associate companies to see who else I needed to avoid in future, and Dick Smith came up and I did not delete it from the list.
gosh one has to be very precise on this forum if that’s the incorrect term sorry!
