I think NSW Rental Bonds Online is a sham. It barely offers any protection of deposits.
I had a dispute with my landlord over the bond. I told NSW RBO that this was a dispute but they paid the landlord anyway. The reason they did this is because they will only stop payment to the landlord if you raise a Tribunal claim. I moved overseas and they told me that I could not use the Tribunal service. I wonder if the Tribunal service even works out of state.
The Tribunal also has a $50 fee that is paid by the tenant even if you are awarded your money back.
I can’t believe how poor this is!
