New Smartphone To Protect Pedestrians From Themselves

An article regarding a new smartphone app to protect pedestrians from themselves.

According to the article, the total of Australian road deaths of 1,224 last year included 162 pedestrians, whilst globally, 270,000 pedestrian deaths accounted for 22% of the road toll.

I don’t know just what is the most incredible figure.

With a population of around 24.6 million at the end of 2017, Australia accounted for around 3.28% of the global population of around 7.5 billion, yet accounted for just 0.06% of pedestrian road deaths and 0.1% of total road deaths.

Things must be really bad elsewhere in the world.

It is also amazing that the Australian pedestrian road deaths are so low as I would expect 162 to be the daily figure in Cairns alone in view of what I regularly witness.
