Small portable sniffers for various compounds have been around for a while. What the article fails to mention is what would it cost and how it would be made available in the regions where it is most needed. It’s all very well to report on interesting tech developments but they remain laboratory curiosities unless followed up and made affordable.

It’s always best to be wary about reports of developments which COULD do something in the future. Often these reports are generated to garner interest in the research, and in no way correlate with sucessful development of a product.

The thing is for this add on device is you have to remember to take it with you, you have to use it, and use it while sober enough to take notice of the result, so while it might save a responsible and light drinker those who party hard and over imbibe might still be at high risk of adulteration of their drinks. Useful for those policing the safety of drinks though as a field test.
