Medicare not accepting same-day appointments

Thanks for looking anyway.

Our doctor accepted bulk billed appointments for the COVID jab and an extended appointment one after another. No problems. I have no idea what the charging was as we didn’t have to pay anything.

I needed to have cortisone and local anaesthetic injections into both shoulders. I was advised by two different practices that it could not be done on the same day because Medicare would not pay the bulk bill amount for more than one procedure a day.

I have to have blood tests every six months. 1 for cancer and the other for thyroid, iron, Vit D etc deficiencies because I have osteoporosis. I need to take a wheelie walker because of two a unsuccessful hip operations. I usually only have one needle and the nurse separated the blood into different vials. I have been told now that they can’t do that any more. I can only have them on two different days. This is very inconvenient to disabled pensioners. What is happening to our world. Can anyone talk to Medicare about how it is such an inconvenience, especially to pensioners who can’t drive. I asked if I couold have a separate needle on the same day and was told NO. Surely they could still charge for two visits if abolutuely necessary. Because I had two separate referrals.

I assume there is not ‘more to the story’ that might complicate matters.

You could. The public servants do not always have discretion. Contact should be through your MP as well as the Minister(s) responsible.

Sometimes staff make errors, or assume.
Your GP’s surgery or specialist/s should also be able to clarify or confirm if what you have been advised is correct. I’ve had two seperate sets of tests collected on the same day. Considering urine testing is independent of bloods, recent experience.
