Some general advice for spotting a scam online.
Do you enter any competitions online?
Simple answer is no.
Whilst not an online promotion, the ones that always amuse me are the temporary booths in the shopping centres manned by persons offering āfreeā entries to win some attractive prize such as an overseas holiday.
āFreeā entries in return for what? Selling your personal details to marketing companies? And who knows whether the claimed prizes actually exist, and if they do, who wins them? The promoterās family and friends?
No thanks. I would rather buy a ticket in a legitimate raffle organised by a known ethical organisation.
I definitely avoid online ācompetitionsā- they are purely data collection, and itās a sure way to receive spam and unwanted phone calls trying to sell something I donāt want!
Generally, when reading the fine print, you give all rights away in perpetuity to the organiser and āselectedā third parties at their discretion.
Also, the odds of winning are generally very low.
No thanks!
