With the ingenuity of mankind one would think there are or could be alternative designs to keep button batteries ‘safely inside’ while still making them ‘all-adult compatible’. The current multilayer plastic that stymies so many may just be the lowest cost solution and easiest to manufacture, or the one that suits marketing and displays best, or likely a combination of both.
Imagine an alternative where the plastic shell is say 50mm with a perforation at the 25mm mark that would snap open if the ‘break line’ were positioned on an edge and suitable pressure applied, or with a compatible opener being on the market to suit(think a pill cutter as an example).
