Hot cross buns **POLL**

Hot cross buns come in every flavour imaginable these days - we’ve come across non-traditional varieties like bubblegum, choc-chip and (the weirdest) Vegemite and cheese! Are you a fan of these twists on the traditional hot cross bun?

Chocolate/choc chip hot cross buns are almost traditional now. I certainly wouldn’t put them in the same category as the other flavours you mention.

Thanks to everyone who voted, looks like there are a lot of traditionalists among us!

Here’s some of the crazier bun flavours we’ve come across in our travels:

No way would a Vegemite one ever cross my lips. There are just somethings you shouldn’t try to fiddle with too much.

I can barely see the appeal of bubblegum flavour but I can see it, but Cheese is another I think I will give a miss to.

So, I’ve heard there are people who spread Vegemite (and other ‘mites’) on hot cross buns. Is this true? I have to say, I haven’t heard of this one.

  • Yes, it’s a thing
  • No, 'mites do not go here

I personally haven’t done it with hot cross buns but I have been known to spread a little Vegemite on fruit toast. Sounds gross but is actually delicious - salty and sweet!

Never heard of anyone spreading ‘mites’ on a sweet bun like a hot cross bun…but have heard of many adding butter/margarine and other sweet spreads (honey, jam, nut spreads etc).

I prefer mine naked.

 I prefer to be wearing something in case of spillage   OK I got what you meant but honest it was too hard to resist.
