Health Insurance for dependents over 21

Does anyone know of Companies providing cover for dependent students aged under 25 who are not studying full-time?

Hi @Silip31.
Good to see your question, and welcome to the community.

BUPA provided cover for all three of our adult children past 21, with two up to 25yrs of age under a Family Plus Option. They were covered as part time students and even if living away from home. Yes, there was a policy change required. I can’t recall the change in policy cost if any.

Thank you very much for that information.

It is both surprising and concerning as we are currently BUPA customers and weren’t offered an alternative when our son turned 21 last year. They just advised us he was no longer covered because he wasn’t a full-time student. I will need to ask the right questions on Monday.

Bupa may not be your only option, it can also be worth looking at other providers as they all tend to offer similar products.

Many young adults are leaving school well after 18.
Between TAFE, Post Trade, Uni, late teenage “choice of wrong career crisis moments” they tend to rely more on family for longer. Crappy employment prospects see many working part time while doing more study and training.

Late teens is also a great time for many, with some more prone to injury than others. Injury outside of work is common. Not all injuries are prioritised in the public system as emergency and you join the queue. We thought of it as a risk management strategy.
