Gift Cards That Can’t Be Used Online

I wonder if the general prohibition of using for online purchases and only to be used in person is a strategy by retailers to reduce their cards as being used as a source of payment for online scams.

A scammer is less likely to front a store where it is likely they will be caught on video or questions asked if they have a fist full of cards to redeem, rather than the more anonymity online use gives (including shipping to another address).

Hello and welcome to the forum. Your post has been moved to this existing thread with exactly the same question relating to other businesses. Please have a read of the preceeding posts because the answers relate to your question.

Short answer; yes they can do it because they write the Terms and Conditions that apply to the (various) cards.

If you use FaceBook, why don’t you put your complaint on their FB page and start a bit of social pressure?

Maybe the gift cards should have to have a disclaimer on them, regardless where they are being sold that they cant be used online
