Eggs recalled due to Salmonella contamination

A recall has just been issued for eggs, potentially contaminated with Salmonella, sold under a range of labels in Woolworths and independent stores in ACT, NSW, Vic, Tas and Coles in Vic and SA.

Our recalls page has all the details - please share if you know people who could potentially be affected.

Maybe the recall statement:

“Food products contaminated with Salmonella may cause illness if consumed”

should be amended to:

Food products contaminated with Salmonella may cause illness if not cooked properly and consumed.

It is my understanding that consuming the eggs raw may pose a significant health risk, but cooking the same eggs the risks can be avoided. These websites have more information:

https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/S_T/Salmonella-infection

For eggs, they need to be heated to 72°C to kill off the infection.

Changing the wording may prevent unnecessary stress and concern caused by anyone who may have cooked the eggs and eaten them.

If anyone has consumed these particular eggs in their raw state or not fully cooked, then “Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice” should definitely apply.
