DIY Suzuki Roof Bars

Whilst getting a piece of fish for lunch last week, I noticed an older model Suzuki SUV which had been fitted with a pair of roof side rails made by a local aluminium fabrication business.
Either end of each rail was welded to a short post which in turn was welded to a foot plate. The racks were attached to the vehicle by means of bolts which went through holes drilled through the roof. The aluminium was not even painted.
I would expect that the cost of having them fabricated would be well in excess of factory made cross bars which attach to the side rails which were factory fitted to this vehicle. There are lots of listings for them on eBay for around $40 to $70 a pair.
It may not have been quick but it was definitely rough.
