Benefits of vaccinating against chicken pox are threefold - avoiding getting sick with chicken pox, avoiding complications with the chicken pox disease, and dramatically reducing the odds of getting shingles as an adult.

Possibly fourfold, chicken pox can cause death as well. In Australia there are about on average 6 deaths directly resulting from the virus each year (US has about 100 direct deaths).
