Auto adjustment to display 4KHDR content

In reviews of smart TVs, Choice lists “no auto adjustment to display 4KHDR content” as a bad point. I know nothing about this: is it really that bad a thing; and how does one go about manually adjusting for 4K on the TV?

Hi Davcromb,

we think it is a bad thing. As 4K content is all digital, the TV should be smart enough to recognise the resolution and whether or not it is HDR, and display it accordingly.

On TVs that don’t automatically display it correctly, there will be one or more settings that you’ll need to locate and change manually. These vary from one brand to another.

Hi David

If you have a fairly recently purchased computer and monitor, laptop, tablet, smart phone etc, they should all automatically recognise video, photo, or game video resolutions and display them at the highest corresponding resolution that screen is capable of.

In the same way, it is reasonable to expect a 4K TV to automatically recognise and display at the highest resolution based on the input, whether it is broadcast TV, pay TV, streaming, 4K Blu-ray, etc.
